Smooth
just released the CE 3.2 several months ago. We recently contacted their office
and they mentioned that this has all of the outstanding features of the CE, in
addition to a number of upgrades. Like the CE, it comes with a heavy duty flywheel
and Electromagnetic Braking System. Features that really make a difference in
giving you a smooth, elliptical motion.
It
also comes with both wireless heart rate control, and hand grip HRC. If you hate
having an uncomfortable strap around your chest, the HRC on the moving handles
is a nice alternative. Smooth is one of the only ellipticals to have that feature.
The improvements
designed in the CE 3.2 are pivotal foot pedals and an enhanced console, display
and programming. With
ergonomic, pivotal foot pedals you further reducing and strain or possible injuries
to your joints. When you workout on an elliptical trainer your feet and ankles
naturally want to pivot. The CE foot pedals you mimic that pivotal movement, thereby
preventing any harsh impact or possible injury. It is designed to let your
ankles, as well as your knees and hips, remain in alignment. This feature reduces
discomfort and prevents injuries from excessive straining. If
there was an area that needed improvement on the older CE model, it was the console
display and the programming. The new console is designed with a four-window, dot
matrix LED display. It allows you to read course profiles, speed, time, distance,
heart rate, calories and resistance levels. The
electronics include nine programs. We all know how boring exercising on a machine
can be. Having a variety of programs to choose from can help you get motivated,
and encourages you to over come those fitness plateaus. If you've been reading
about "Interval Training," you are aware that this is the hot new technique
for fat burning workouts. The CE 3.2 elliptical has an Automatic Interval program.
According to Smooth: "The
program Increases heart rate and improves cardiovascular functions with higher
intensity routines then the normal cool down period. The eight intervals within
this program offer great balance between cardio, fat burning and muscle toning.
Each of the eight intervals can be adjusted at will." | MSRP | $1,499 | | Resistance: | Electromagnetic

Review
The
older CE model has proven to be a reliable elliptical trainer, with an excellent
service track record. The new CE 3.2 has some major improvements that warrant
giving it a serious look. In addition, it usually sells for $200-$300 less then
the CE. The only negative is that the parts warranty is 2 years rather then 3.
But the benefit of elliptical trainers is they are less likely to have service
problems in comparison to a treadmill. Less impacts means less wear.
