Proform 790E Elliptical
Price: $999
Bottom Line:The Proform 790E is an entry level elliptical trainer that offers a variety of handy workout features but fails to deliver high quality parts, a sense of durability, and user comfort for just under $1,000.00.
Thoughts:The Proform (an Icon brand) 790E is jam packed with features and options but fails to bring forward the most basic of attributes one may look for in a high quality elliptical trainer. This machine has 18 preset workouts, an additional 6 weight loss-workouts, 20 resistance levels, and a 25degree adjustable power intensity ramp. This machine surprised us with a seemingly more stable design with respect to rail thickness and stability; however, with the beefed up rails and added incline mechanics this "compact" front-drive trainer is only 6" shorter in length than its rear-drive counterparts. Also, the drive system is noisy and many users who tested this machine complained about the slipperiness of the pedals. After a 45minute workout we found this machine was causing prolonged joint pain in the ankles and knees. This is most-likely related to a poorly designed elliptical motion which can cause serious joint pain. This is another reason why we always recommend a high quality elliptical trainer if you are an individual concerned about joint pain. Even though elliptical machines do not cause the same level of impact as running outdoors, having a poorly designed elliptical motion can be just as detrimental to at-risk joints. The Proform 790E is an entry level, front drive elliptical trainer that carries a multitude of features and a relatively stable design but offers an unnatural elliptical motion that can cause serious joint pain after prolonged use.
