Proform 1050E EllipticalProform 1050E elliptical machine

Price: $999

Bottom Line:The 1050E by Proform (an Icon brand) offers a number of great options from workout presets, incline options, and stride length adjustment all for $999.00. However, not everything about this entry level 1050E met our basic quality standards.

Thoughts:The Proform 1050E has 19"-21" adjustable stride length, a rear drive system, 20 quick change resistance levels, in handle controls, 2 custom workout slots, and a 10-40degree adjustable incline power ramp. All of these features make this elliptical machine appear as great value for money; however, it still carries some of the commons issues we have seen on many entry level Proform elliptical trainers. The rails are very flimsy and adjusting the stride length can be very difficult. Also the power ramp does offer incline, but once adjusted past 20degrees the stride motion is drastically changed, making the workout extremely uncomfortable. Also the machine claims to support up to a 325lb user, but we feel this would be very strenuous on the drive system and rails. The warranty for this machine is a limited 1year parts and labor warranty whereas other manufacturers, such as Life Fitness, offer a 5-7 year guaranteed parts warranty and a 2 year labor warranty. All in all this machine will get the job done for the average home user looking for an affordable entry level machine, but be aware that the apparent plethora of features found on the Proform 1050E is limited by poorly designed mechanics and low quality components.
