The
Nordic Track CX 990 elliptical trainer is basically the CX 925 with one important
feature, the five Quick Ramp incline settings. From the console you can
adjust the incline settings from 10%-30%. By changing the degree of the incline
you are able to workout additional muscles. This is a technology that was licensed
by Precor and is only found on their high-end products.
Same
comments as with the 925 - We are not crazy about the console, it has only two
small readouts and training zone graph. Like most Icon products the CX990 is iFit technology compatible. The CX 925 has 10 Quick Resistance buttons
on the console to change the intensity throughout your workout. You may find that
10 is not enough and that the levels of resistance change are to dramatic. The
foot pedals are not articulating on this model.

Comments: We awarded the CX 990 the "Best Buy" primarily for the Quick
Ramp feature. We footnote this rating by cautioning you when you purchase
an elliptical trainer under $1,000. When a company sells a featured rich elliptical
trainer for under $1,000 they have to compromise on something, and that is usually
the quality of the components.
The
one advantage of the Nordic Track CX 990 is that it is covered with a 1 year warranty,
rather then their typical 90 days. If you have less then $1,000 to spend on a
elliptical, and you plan to use it moderately (3-5 hours a week), then this could
be your best bet.
