NordicTrack FreeStrider 35 SNordicTrack FreeStrider 35 S elliptical machine

Price: $1,999

Bottom Line:The NordicTrack FreeStrider 35 S is a hybrid elliptical/stair-stepper that boasts an industry best 35" inch stride path as its main feature, but this machine fails to deliver quality, comfort, or durability, all for a $1,999 price tag.

Thoughts:The Icon brand NordicTrack FreeStrider 35 S offers a standard array NordicTrack features including, iFit live functionality, oversized pedals, 16 resistance levels, and a handful of preset workouts. The primary feature this elliptical machine claims to have is an adjustable stride length of up to 35", however this machine does not provide 35" of pure elliptical stride motion as it claims. This machine is an elliptical/stair-stepper hybrid meaning it combines the elliptical motion of running with the intense upward stride of stair-stepping. This can be an extremely challenging workout; however, this hybridization leads to many pitfalls. The user is unable to get a pure elliptical or pure stair-stepper workout with this machine. Instead the user is forced into an uncomfortable combination of both workout types. This leads to joint pain, over-exertion, and a generally displeasing workout. On top of these problems, the FreeStrider 35 S has many brittle plastic components and a noisy drive system. If you are a looking for an elliptical machine with a long stride-adjustment, do not be misled by the NordicTrack FreeStrider 35 S. We'd recommend looking past this machine as it fails to meet the expectations of high quality elliptical or a high quality stair stepper. We'd recommend brands such as Precor or Smooth Fitness as great alternatives.
