NordicTrack E5ViNordicTrack E5Vi elliptical machine

Price: $999

Bottom Line:The NordicTrack EV5i (an Icon brand) is an entry level rear drive elliptical trainer that offers an adjustable stride feature but little else for $999.00.

Thoughts:The EV5i elliptical trainer from NordicTrack comes standard with a 13", 15", and 18" adjustable stride, 16 preset workouts, oversized pedals, and a convenient Ipod hookup. While the stride adjustments are a nice feature we found the 13" and 15" configurations to be almost pointless as such a short stride would be uncomfortable for any average adult. The preset workouts were nice, but offered little variation. This elliptical does fold up, but lifting the rear drive assembly into the folded position proved to be difficult. Tread on the foot pedals would have been a nice addition as the smooth plastic provided very little foot traction. The machine wobbled from side-to-side during high paced workouts and the drive system was very noisy. The NordicTrack EV5i may get the job done for the average user looking for an entry level elliptical trainer; however, low quality parts and flimsy construction paired with a limited 1year parts/labor warranty could lead to a very disappointing fitness investment. We'd recommend looking into other companies such as Life Fitness or Smooth Fitness whom offer higher quality machines with a 7 year parts/2 year labor warranty.
