Elliptical Trainer
"Best Buys"

The "Best Buy" ratings for elliptical trainers are based on:

  • Elliptical Quality
  • Product Performance
  • Customer Feedback
  • Company Reputation
This rating is dated January 15, 2008 and will be updated as new products become available.

$500 - $1,000

Nordic Track CX 990 - This elliptical receives the "Best Buy" primarily for the Quick Ramp adjustable incline. You should exercise caution when buying any elliptical under $1,000. Quality of the components is always questionable.

$1,000 - $2,000

Smooth CE 3.2 - A solid built elliptical trainer that has some excellent features for the price. It is equipped with a heavy flywheel giving it a very smooth elliptical motion. Comes with wireless HRC and an impressive console and programming selection. Since it is sold direct through the manufacturer you are getting more bang for your buck.

$2,000 - $3,000

With the recent expansion of the Smooth Fitness elliptical lineup, we have re-evaluated this category. It was difficult selecting a "Best Buy" winner, which is why we came up with a tie between the Smooth CE 7.4 and the Precor EFX 5.19. Both are quality machines are well built and offer a full body workout. If you are eager to spend extra cash on an elliptical, choose the Precor EFX 5.19. If you want a great elliptical for a steal check out the Smooth Fitness CE 7.4. We’ve seen the 7.4 as low as $1999.

$3,000+

And now for the envelope please. Most industry professionals would agree that the Precor EFX 5.23 is the top elliptical trainer in the market. The CrossRamp technology is a premium feature which distinguishes this elliptical from the rest. Being able to adjust the incline to your elliptical stride adds a whole new dimension to cross training. It is built for commercial use and will withstand the most arduous use.
