ProForm
Elliptical Trainers
ProForm
is a subsidiary of Icon Health and Fitness, the largest retail fitness
company in the world and Their brands can be found in most mass merchants. Icon subsidiaries include Reebok, Weider, Nordic Track, and Weslo.
Icon
elliptical trainers typically range between $300 and $1,000. We will only review
ellipticals above the $600 price range. Below that, the quality really becomes
questionable.
ProForm elliptical machines are built for the casual user. If you plan to work out on a
regular basis, we would recommend you consider other brands. Similar to their elliptical trainer,
Runner's World categorized ProForm treadmills as a "light duty machine."
The
marketing people at Icon are genius in that they build inexpensive machines that
have the look of much more expensive models. Of course, plastic is cheap. Icon
is also big on bells and whistles. A perfect example is their iFit technology
an interactive program that controls your workouts with various challenges. Their
flaw is in the quality of the components.
ProForm
elliptical trainers come with a very short warranty, that includes 90 days service
and 90 days parts. One other concern with Icon products is that support and service
does not seem to be a high priority once the warranty runs out.
